Created and Treated Gemstones Class is three days of the most intensive and fun study of gemstones that owe their beauty to treatments or being lab-created. Created and Treated gemstones are an essential part of our gemstone industry as they help make more of the gemstone mine production viable in the market and help meet consumer demand for lower-priced gemstone jewelry. The key is for proper disclosure to consumers of a gemstone’s status as created or treated, and to accomplish that; we need educated jewelers and gem dealers. That is the purpose of this class.
This class is intended for beginner to intermediate level gemologists who are seeking instructor led, hands-on learning of created and treated gemstones utilizing over 500 created and treated gemstones from all of the normally seen varieties and sources. Classes are 8:30am – 5:00pm.
To maximize each student’s learning opportunity we are limiting this class to 8 students.
The class will include the following schedule:
Real Time, High Definition Demonstrations
Classes included real time, high definition demonstrations of the gemology tools and techniques, and special properties of created and treated gemstones to help students gain knowledge in the fastest and most efficient ways.
ISG Student Study Reference Set and Library
Students will have the opportunity to work with world-class gemological tools and equipment, including our ISG Student Reference Library which includes hundreds of created and treated gemstones for hands-on study.
Upon successful completion of this class the student will have an intermediate to advanced understanding of created and treated diamonds including methods to identify as many as possible without advanced testing equipment.
Instructor: Your instructor is Robert James FGA, GG, president of the ISG. Mr. James is a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, Graduate Gemologist of the Gemological Institute of America, and former Certified Gemologist of the American Gem Society. He has taught the FGA course program as an Allied Teaching Centre of the Gem-A, and taught gemology classes for the Dallas County Community College District and the Okaloosa-Walton Community College District. Mr. James holds a Higher Education Teaching Certificate from Harvard University.
Class Size: Class is limited to 8 students to ensure each student gets personal service.
Gemological Tools: Provided by the ISG with each student having their own gem tool set to work with. Students will not need to bring anything to this class.
Previous Training: Not Required. Beginners welcome to this class.
