The ISG Property Appraisal and Expert Witness Class will be a 3-day intensive study of appraising personal property items for various applications, including insurance replacement, probate, donation, bankruptcy, and more. This class will include in-depth instruction on how jewelry appraisers can benefit from the valuable revenue stream by becoming an expert witness in jewelry-related litigation cases. Your instructor is a state-licensed Property and Casualty Insurance Adjuster specializing in high value jewelry cases, with many years of experience in major-case expert witness work. Expert witness training will provide instruction based on actual litigation case work.

This class is intended for appraisers holding accredited gemology titles who wish to expand their gemology business into Personal Property Appraisal and Expert Witness. Classes are 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.

To maximize each student’s learning opportunity, we limit this class to 8 students.

The class will include the following schedule:

  • Wednesday, May 22: We start with a review of your legal responsibilities as an appraiser, how to set your professional fees, understand jewelry insurance policies, USPAP, and how to write the various types of appraisals such as replacement, estate, donation, and more.
  • Thursday, May 23: Day two we learn how to structure your appraisal form. What it needs to contain. How to write it to protect yourself in case you are challenged in court. And what elements need to be in every appraisal to help protect the interest of your clients. 
  • Friday, May 24: On day three, we learn about being an expert witness in high-value jewelry cases. Includes how to set up your special office needs for working with attorneys, your professional fees and services, how to work with attorneys, how to write the investigation report, and much more.

Real-Time, High Definition Demonstrations

Classes included real-time, high-definition demonstrations of the appraisal forms, jewelry insurance policies, deposition structures, and more. 

 

 

NAIIAInstructor: Your instructor is Robert James FGA, GG, president of the ISG. He is a Property and Casualty Insurance Adjuster of the Texas Department of Insurance and earned the Business Law Certification from Cornell Law School. Mr. James has been a litigation consultant and expert witness on some of the largest court cases in the United States and the United Kingdom. He is a member of the National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters and the Insurance Appraisal and Umpire Association. Mr. James is a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, a Graduate Gemologist of the Gemological Institute of America, and a former Certified Gemologist of the American Gem Society.  Mr. James holds a Higher Education Teaching Certificate from Harvard University.
